IMMIGRATION

HONOR OUR HERITAGE AS A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS

Immigrants are part of the fabric of this country. They are a critical part of the economy, doing many jobs that Americans just won't do. Their presence maintains industries (including many agricultural sectors) that would no longer exist without them. They strengthen our country. Anyone who says otherwise is simply using them as scapegoats. We must:

  • Treat all immigrants with dignity and respect.

  • Stop tearing apart families at the border, and through mass deportations and constant persecution of immigrants by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). If the Department of Homeland Security refuses to rein in ICE, Congress must act immediately to de-fund it.

  • Establish the right to appear before a judge to challenge any order of deportation.

  • Create a path to citizenship for "Dreamers" (people brought to this country as children), along with their parents and siblings.

  • Fully respect the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers.

  • Expand temporary visa programs for students and guest workers, while increasing protections for both.

  • Build no border wall. Trump's wall won't work, Mexico will never pay for it, and the idea itself is offensive. Most undocumented immigrants arrive here legally anyway.

  • Establish fair trade deals with our southern neighbors, because people don't leave strong economies and safe communities.
